What inspired you to do your sport?
"Seeing my sister do gymnastics inspired me to give it a go. I soon fell in love with the sport."
2. Is it the only sport you focused on?
"Growing up I was pretty good at most sports because of the foundations gymnastics had given me, I tried a bit of football and enjoyed a whole range of sports in PE. Despite being asked to join local clubs and teams I always turned them down because I loved my gymnastics too much."
3. Who is your sporting role model?
"I don’t have one specifically but in gymnastics I looked up to the likes of Louis Smith and Dan Keatings as a young lad. Now that I’m older I’d probably say Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, completely different sport but it was there attitudes and mentality that inspired me."
4. What is the hardest challenge you have overcome?
"In 2019 I tore my bicep tendon partially off the bone in my shoulder which required surgery to fix. After months of rehab, physio and a lockdown by 2021 I was finally ready to compete at the British championships…. So I thought …. I had withdraw from the competition the day before due to pain in my spine which I later found out was a compression fracture in one of my vertebrae. Fast forward to 2022… I was selected to compete for England at the Northern European championships in Finland."
5. What's your greatest sporting achievements?
"I’d say my greatest sporting achievements are placing 2nd on vault at the English Championships, and placing 3rd on Vault at the British championships."
6. Have you ever been nervous or scared? If so how did you get over it?
"To put it simply, yes! All the time! Still to this day. It’s okay to be nervous and scared, that’s what makes us human. I think what helped me is changing my mindset to a more positive one. Remembering that whatever it is that you are scared or nervous about will always remain the same. There is always a risk of falling or failure. The only thing you can control is your attitude to these situations. You can either worry more and stress yourself out, or you can accept it for what it is and try to attack it with a positive confident mindset!"
7. What's some advice you would give to a young athlete?
"Don’t put pressure on yourself! Don’t make comparisons to others and try to be a little bit better than you were yesterday. Enjoy what you’re doing and remember it’s always you vs you!"
8. How did you get into your sport?
"When I was around 5/6 years old my Mum would take me to watch my sister do gymnastics at our local club. When I watched her running and jumping around I just remember it looking like so much fun!"
9. To what level do you play or have played?
"Elite International."
10. Did you always believe you were good enough to be a top level athlete?
"Yes and no. When I was a little boy yes I always believed I could do it. When I reached my teenage years a little bit of doubt started to creep in, but I knew I was determined enough to find out."
11. Have you won any medals?
"I have and the ones I’m most proud off are"
British Teams Championships 2017 🥈
English Championships - Vault - 2018 🥈
British Championships - Vault - 2018 🥉
English Championships - Vault - 2024 🥉
12. When did you win your first competition?
"I won my first competition when I was 7 years old, it was in Stoke on Trent at a national grades competition."
13. What's your most memorable sporting moment?
"I added a really difficult release and catch skill into my high bar routine this year. It’s called a Kolman, it’s basically a backflip over the bar with a 360° twist in it and then you have to catch the bar again. I successfully competed it at the English and British championships this year and it made me feel so happy because I watched older gymnasts do this skill when I was little and remember thinking “there’s no way I’ll ever be able to do that”
